Call for applications for artists’ residencies at the Künstler- und Stipendiatenhaus in Salzwedel, Germany in 2020
In the historic centre of the Hanseatic town of Salzwedel, the district of Altmarkkreis Salzwedel maintains a listed half-timbered house as an internationally-focused residence for artists. Thanks to its idyllic and serene setting, artists from the fields of visual arts, literature and music/composition enjoy ideal working and living conditions while at the residence. The building also features an area in which events and small exhibitions can be held.
The call for applications is aimed at professional, particularly gifted and primarily younger artists from the fields of visual arts, literature and music/composition who have already received public recognition for their work and are still developing as artists. Applications from students will not be accepted.
The State Chancellery and Ministry of Culture sponsor the three-month residencies at the Künstler- und Stipendiatenhaus Salzwedel with scholarships to the amount of €1000 per month. Scholarship recipients will incur costs only for the cost of the telephone and internet connection.
Applications are sought from applicants for residencies for the following months of 2020
- for music/composition: April – June
- for visual arts: January – March and July – September
- for literature: October – December
Applications for residencies should be sent to the Landesverwaltungsamt, Referat 303 – Kultur, Landesfachstelle für öffentl. Bibliotheken – Ernst-Kamieth-Straße 2, 06112 Halle, Germany.
Applications must be submitted to the agency above by 16 August 2020 at the latest. Applications must be postmarked on or before this date. Applications which arrive late will not be considered. Online applications are not permitted.
Applications from artists from the German state of Saxony-Anhalt are particularly welcome, but this is not a prerequisite. Sponsorship of other artists is possible if there is a particular state interest on account of outstanding artistic merit, or if there is a connection with Saxony-Anhalt.
Applications do not require the use of a particular form. Applications should include the following:
- Description of the project
- Details about scholarship applications to other institutions (including dates and project information)
- Meaningful work samples, the nature of which is dependent on the field:
Visual arts: Catalogues or books (maximum of 3), photographs (max. 10), CDs/videos/DVDs (max. 3, each 15 minutes in length)
Literature: approx. 10 pages of text samples in German
Music/composition: at least two compositions of different genres which have previously been performed, as a complete score and with accompanying sound documentation.
