Call for applications for a three-month residency at the Künstler- und Stipendiatenhaus Salzwedel for artists in the year 2025
In the historic town centre of the Hanseatic town of Salzwedel, the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel maintains a half-timbered house as an artists’ and scholarship house with an international focus. In an idyllic and peaceful surroundings, artists from the fields of visual arts, literature and music/composition find ideal working and living conditions. The house also has an area where events and small exhibitions can take place.
The call is aimed at professionally working, particularly talented and primarily younger artists in the fields of visual arts, literature and music/composition who have already achieved public recognition with their work but whose artistic development is still open. music/composition who have already achieved public recognition with their work but are still open in their artistic development. Applications from students are excluded.
Please note: Applications from artists from Saxony-Anhalt are expressly encouraged, but not a prerequisite. Funding for other artists is possible artists is possible if their outstanding artistic work is of particular interest to the state or if a connection to Saxony-Anhalt can be established.
The State Chancellery and Ministry of Culture supports the three-month residencies at the Salzwedel Artists’ and Scholars’ House with a grant of €1,500 per month. The scholarship holders only incur incidental costs in the amount of the telephone and internet connection fees.
The scholarship residencies for applicants in 2025 are advertised for the following months
- for literature: January – March
- for music: July – September
- for the visual arts: April – June and October – December
Residency is compulsory for the scholarship holder’s stay. It is not possible to be exempted from this requirement, even partially.
Interested applicants should submit the following documents exclusively in digital form as a ZIP file or summarised in a PDF document:
- Letter of application
- Vita
- Project description
- Information on scholarship applications to other organisations (related to period and project)
- meaningful samples of artistic work in the following areas:
- Visual arts: 10 – 12 illustrations, max. 3 video works (max. 10 minutes each)
- Literature: approx. 10 pages of text samples in German
- Music/composition: at least two previously performed compositions of different genres in the form of the complete score and sound documentation.

Application documents received late will not be considered. Exclusively online applications (concerning the letter of application) are not permitted.
