On 31 August 2023, there was a musical and literary foray in the courtyard of the Künstler- und Stipendiatenhaus in Salzwedel

Autor Wolf Stein in Begleitung durch Eva Curth mit ihrer keltischen Harfe

On Thursday, 31 August, author Wolf Stein took his guests on a literary, humorous and nature-loving journey from Germany to Canada in the courtyard of the Künstler- und Stipendiatenhaus Salzwedel from 18:30. Eva Curth will accompany this “NaturReise” enchantingly with the sounds of her Celtic harp as part of the 28th Altmark Music Festival.

Eva Curth is one of the most versatile interpreters in the world of harp music. As the daughter of an orchestral musician, she received extensive musical training as a child, which led to her studying the harp at the Detmold Academy of Music and the MOZARTEUM Salzburg Academy of Music and Performing Arts. She completed her soloist diploma with honours. Eva Curth worked for 10 years as a permanent orchestral musician in Berlin before devoting herself entirely to performing and teaching. She is a member of various ensembles and has recorded numerous radio and CD productions. She has taught the harp class at the Georg Philipp Telemann Conservatory in Magdeburg since 2008 and has been deputy chairwoman of the Association of Harpists in Germany since 2016. She performs and teaches worldwide and is a regular soloist and lecturer at international festivals.

Wolf SteinWolf Stein, born in 1977, lives and works in Schwerin when he is not travelling around the world. In search of adventures and encounters with interesting people and wild animals, he travelled to faraway countries for a long time. There he found the fodder for his first tales, stories and songs. However, he has also long been fascinated by the beautiful regions of Germany, such as the forest and lake landscapes of Mecklenburg. He has been a tree planter in Canada, a ranger in Australia, a ferryman on the Schmal Luzin and an “intern for the environment” in the Müritz National Park. Wolf Stein has been a freelance author and musician since 2006. As a member of the Association for the Promotion of Writers and the Friedrich Bödecker Circle in Saxony-Anhalt, he organises writing workshops and literary projects in schools.

Artist café of the artist and scholarship house digital Scholarship holder Christine Hoba will read at Open Channel on December 23, 2020

At the end of every three-month stay in the artist and scholarship house, the Kreisvolkshochschule Salzwedel offers every scholarship holder a forum within the framework of a so-called artist café to present themselves and their work to an audience. Due to the current measures to contain the corona pandemic, the artist café cannot take place as a face-to-face event on December 17, 2020 as originally planned and announced in the semester program of the district adult education center. Instead, the artist café will take place digitally as a cooperation between the friends’ association of the artist and scholarship house, the district adult education center and the Salzwedel Open Canal. On December 23, 2020, the artist café will be broadcast from midnight and then every three hours on the open channel.

Christine Hoba moved into the artist and scholarship house of the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel as a scholarship holder for the field of literature on October 1st, 2020. Her areas of work are poetry, prose and children’s literature. Christine Hoba was born in Magdeburg in 1961, but has lived in Halle since 1979. After studying chemistry, she trained as a bookseller and library assistant. Christine Hoba is a member of the Association for the Promotion of Writers of Saxony-Anhalt and of the Halleschen Dichterkreis. She has been a member of the PEN Center Germany since 2017.

At the digital artist café, Christine Hoba reads from her short story “The Garden”, with which she applied for the scholarship. In a small group, she then asks various questions and is ready for a dialogue. At the end of the digital artist café, the scholarship holder will present the novel “Weird Rain – An Autumn Night Confusion”, which she completed during her stay in Salzwedel.

After broadcasting on the Open Channel on December 23, 2020, the artist café will also be shown on the websites of the artist and scholarship house and the district adult education center.
